Yvonne Iten-Scott is a contemporary textile artist and highly sought-after teacher, recognized for her fearless, exploratory approach to rug hooking and fibre art. Recent international attention — including the censorship of one of her artworks in the United States — has unexpectedly opened new doors, making 2026 an especially busy and exciting year. Yvonne will serve as keynote speaker for both the Ontario Rug Hooking Guild’s 30th Anniversary Conference and the ATHA Conference in Salt Lake City. She will also be teaching at Sauder Village Rug Hooking Week and exhibiting student work created with the Green Mountain Guild.

LEARN ABOUT YVONNE’S CLASS  FIBRE ART FUSION: BLENDING TECHNIQUES

At Periwinkle Laine’s June Retreat, Yvonne will guide students through an open-ended, creative class that celebrates experimentation, personal expression, and gently breaking the rules. Rather than working from a fixed pattern, participants will build an organic, free-form piece inspired by natural forms such as agate stone. A wide range of techniques may be explored, including hooking, punching, braiding, standing wool, proddy, quillies, wet felting, and sculpting. Linen stretched on copper piping allows for sculptural shaping, with the option to leave the copper in place for wall hanging or remove it for a finished floor rug. This class encourages curiosity, confidence, and creative risk-taking, resulting in a truly one-of-a-kind textile piece.
