We offer in person classes.  Our most popular class is our Rug Hooking 101 – The Next Generation class. This class introduces the eight – steps to designing and finishing a rug/mat.

Hooked in King’s County PEI

Date: July 18 & 19, 2022

Location: Georgetown, Prince Edward Island

Course Fee: $175

Some call rug hooking a craft and other call it an art form but everyone agrees it is one of the most addictive and satisfying hobbies one can have.

Join Prince Edward Island rug hookers, Charlene Miller and Debbie Miller, at the King’s Playhouse in Georgetown PEI for a 2-day contemporary rug hooking course.  These fiber artists will guide you through the basic steps of rug-hooking; introduce you to a wide range of styles, materials, textures and colours; while you hook an 8”x18” rug hooking pattern called “Hauling Day.”

The course fee is for this “contemporary style” rug hooking course is $175.00 + tax.

The fee includes a hand-drawn 8’ x 18” pattern of an Island fishing boat loaded down with lobster traps; hand dyed MacAusland wool and wool strips; instruction and encouragement.  Hooks and frames are also available for use during the class.   The course is suitable for new or experienced hookers.

“Hooked in Georgetown PEI”: Beginner’s Class

Location:  Kings Playhouse Georgetown, Prince Edward Island

Course Fee: $75

We are excited to partner with our friends at the Kings Playhouse in Georgetown, PEI to offer a rug hooking class.  The two-day class, “Hooked in Georgetown” will take place on Friday and Saturday May 27 & 28. 2022, at the historic Kings County Playhouse.

The course fee is for this one-of-a kind course is $75.00 + tax.

The course fee includes: A locally designed pattern, hand-drawn on 100% linen, hand-dyed MacAusland wool and wool strips, instructions and encouragement.  The class will cover designing patterns; wool preparation; exploring texture, value and movement; using recycled wool, colour planning and finishing techniques.   Hooks and frames are available for use during the class.

We offer workshops to hone specific rug hooking skills.  Our workshops are 3.5 hours long and are designed to teach the hooker how to learn or perfect a certain skill or technique.  It is best described like a crash course, taught by an experienced hooker, in one of the following areas:

Periwinkle Laine’s rug hooking retreats are fun and affordable.  Our retreats are in person events and last for one or two days. Retreats vary but most include instruction, socializing and plenty of time for hooking in a relaxed creative environment. Stepping away from your daily life to learn a new skill, connect with like minded people and be creative provides a boost to mental health.
