MAJESTIC CATTAILS – INSTRUCTOR: DWIGHT GALLAGHER, JUNE 9, 10 & 11, 2026, CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI CANADA

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Dwight Gallagher discovered rug hooking in 2000 and has been passionate about the craft ever since. For Dwight, rug hooking is both a creative outlet and a form of therapy — rooted in encouragement, authenticity, and fun. A respected teacher and longtime leader within the rug-hooking community, he is known for his realistic landscapes and for showing how subtle details such as colour shifts, shadows, and highlights can transform a rug. Dwight brings a generous spirit to his teaching, believing that learning flows both ways and that every class offers something new.

LEARN ABOUT DWIGHT’S CLASS

Majestic Cattails explores the quiet beauty of cattails — plants often overlooked, yet rich with symbolism and visual interest. Students will learn how to hook cattails and strap leaves in a swamp-like setting, focusing on depth, perspective, and seasonal colour changes in the foliage. Techniques such as three-value shading, directional hooking, and creating murky, reflective water will be covered. Participants may also be encouraged to gently bend a few traditional hooking rules to achieve a more realistic and expressive result.
The pattern measures 20″ × 12″ and is the first in a planned four-season cattail series.
