In 1988, Neville Smith started making “The Irish Hook,” which was originally an 8mm straight rug hook. In the early 1990s, he teamed up with Cindy Hartman to sell the hooks in the US as “The Hartman Hook.” Even though “Hartman Hooks” are well-known worldwide, Neville still goes by the name “The Irish Hook.” We are delighted to be able to offer Neville’s hooks.
We currently offer one size in two styles: the ERGO 5mm and the Slim 5mm. These hooks, handcrafted by Neville from Yew wood with Brass tapered hardware, feature an Ergo Handle design with a smooth thumb rest for comfortable use. The 5mm shank size adds versatility, allowing it to accommodate various sizes of wool fibre, ranging from #4 through #6.
We truly appreciate the simplicity of this hook. We use this size of a hook for variety of projects; it’s ideal for all cuts.
